FAI Free Flight World Cup 2012

FF WCup

REPORT ON 2012 FAI FREE FLIGHT WORLD CUP

This year had a total of more than 4800 entries in the Free Flight World Cup competitions. I can repeat last year’s comment that this is the largest number ever and again it resulted from an increased number of F1A F1B F1C competitions to 50, with the average number flying in each competition remaining approximately constant.

The top two F1A places were a repeat 0f 2011with Mikhail Kosonozhkin of Russia winning the World Cup, again with a bonus point margin of 2 points ahead of the Slovenian Roland Koglot. Roland has now been second for three years in succession. Four points behind him, the third place was taken by Yuri Evdokimov of Russia.

The F1A-Junior podium was also shared between Slovenia and Russia, in this case with Nikolay Lomov of Russia moving up from third last year to win this year. Slovenian flyers Crt Siftar and Miha Lemut were second and third respectively.

The F1B World Cup was won by Anatoly Rybchenkov (Russia) with a bonus point lead over Ismet Yurtseven of Turkey. Third place was taken by Stepan Stefanchuk of Ukraine, with two wins and a second place plus 10 bonus points.

The F1B Junior World Cup was won by Bartlomiej Bilewicz of Poland. Second place went to Oskar Findahl (Sweden) and Pavel Lomov (Russia) was third. Mention should also be made of Lithuanian Thomas Mackus who took fourth place in the F1B Junior results, but he was also the highest place junior in the senior F1B World Cup, where he placed fifth.

F1C was won by Artem Babenko (Ukraine. Reinhard Truppe (Austria) was in second place this year, the same as 2011, and Juri Roots (Estonia) was third. These places were all determined on bonus points.

The F1Q winner was the same as 2011, that is Andreas Lindner (Germany). Andreas had three wins and second and third places were taken with two wins by Gabor Milak (Hungary) and Heikki Salminen (Finland) respectively

F1P Junior was won by Karolis Linartas of Lithiuania. Second and third places were a direct sawp between the holders in 2011, this year Andrey Viazov (Russia) was second and Taron Malkhasyan (USA) third.

Stanislav Kunit of Poland was the clear winner of F1E, his haul of bonus points aided by winning the large Popa Cringu Memorial event just before the European Championships. The other large event in Romania was won by Jacek Zurowski, also of Poland, and he placed second in the World Cup. Third place went to Zorin Valeanu, a Romanian junior.

Zorin Valeanu was the winner of the F1E Junior World Cup, beating Konrad Zurowski (Poland) on bonus points. Third place was taken by another Romanian flyer, Mihnea Niculescu.

ORGANISATION

The organisation of the 2012 Free Flight World Cup ran relatively smoothly, with just a few cases of slow return of results and some delaying processing of results by supplying initial results in pdf format which hinders processing the World Cup standings.

Three events were cancelled. One was the Canada Cup when the airfield was not available. The other two events were the two F1E competitions in Serbia, which were cancelled when no entries had been received by the closing date, although one competitor later reported having sent an entry just before the deadline.

It has remained difficult to place the detailed World Cup pages on the FAI web site, since the management system does not support simple upload of large numbers of pages. The alternative of placing these pages as files for download does not lend itself to easy browsing for the viewer. The top three places in each event have been displayed on the FAI web site and updated frequently throughout the year at the address:

http://www.fai.org/ciam-events/world-cups/101-ciam/35330-f1-free-flight-world-cup-rankings

The detailed results have been uploaded to the coordinator’s web site and there are links to this from the FAI web page for both the results a each class or the overall summary. The address is

http://www.freeflightnews.org.uk/wcup/wc12/WCP12F1.HTM

The historical records of World Cup results from earlier years have been lost from the FAI web site. They are being re-established on the coordinator’s site but are not yet complete. Follow the link to World Cup Index at the bottom of the page at the link just given
